Values
When I am considering the aspect of ikigai that calls to me loudly, but where I don’t think I am doing enough yet (“What the world needs”) I usually have the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal categories in my mind as a framework to think through the most pressing challenges facing us all.
When you click through and look at the detailed list of goals, and where some countries are at, it is heart breaking and reminds me to be so very appreciative of where I live in this world. I understand I have so much privilege in comparison to a huge percentage of our planet and that drives me to want things to be better everywhere! The danger though is you get overwhelmed and become paralysed to take any action because it all sounds too big and scary.
So when I think through which of the problem categories really resonate, because I have knowledge and experience and passion, then a couple do jump out as priority areas for me; quality eduction and gender equality in particular I keep coming back to something that I’d like to work on.
Oh and the people that I want to attract when talking about anything on here, well they are definitely not misogynistic, racist, homophobic or transphobic. They may be angry or sad at times about inequalities and injustices, but they are mostly optimistic and hopeful and also want to grow and help others around them.
